Kelly Stribling Sutherland - Illustrator

Pat the Bat, Handsome's Tale, and Nat the Rat

Kelly Stribling Sutherland, a graduate of California’s Art Center College of Design, works as a freelance Illustrator from her home in Denton, Texas.  She credits painters like Chagall, Munch and Degas as well as the compositional elements of photography and the graphic arts as inspiration for her work.  Kelly was the youngest artist to have her work selected for the cover of the Neiman-Marcus Christmas catalog cover.  Nine years later, her work was selected again for the Christmas catalog cover.  She has done work for many clients including Bloomingdales, Pier 1 Imports, American Way Magazine, The White House, Dayton’s, Marshall Fields, the United States Naval Academy and many more.

Kelly is currently spreading her love for art to her elementary students in Little Elm, Texas, where she has taught for 10 years.  She is also the Mom to two wonderful children. Robert and Mandi, who are now off on their own adventures in college and after, as Robert is a new Ensign in the Navy, and Mandi is beginning her Senior year in New York City. Kelly and her husband Brian enjoy taking care of their dog Barkley, cooking, traveling to see their kids and spending time with family. Kelly is excited about discovering the world of children’s book illustration with “Pat the Bat.”

-Pat the Bat earned “honorable mention” from the North Texas Book Festival in the 2017 competition Children’s category.
